Ok so I play soccer. Before the season we were required to get a physical so I went to see my doctor and she did a regular physical(blood pressure,weight,10 jump-in-jacks and then looked at my heart rate, and my tempreatre etc. ) And my chest was hurting a week later and I told my mom but im known for being a hypochondriac but she made me annother appointment anway, so I went to my doctor and I requested an EKG. And after the nurse put the leads on me I had to lay still for a while(maybe 5min) and a paper printed out, he took it to the doctor and maybe 10minutes later he came back and told me everything was fine, and my heart was in excellent condition. But during one of my games my heart beats fast when im running and it double beats sometimes while exercising, I never use to work out. And I got tired fast and my chest tightens. I was diagnosed with ashtma 10 years ago. My chlosterol is normal, my blood pressure was good im about 5lb-10lbs overweight, im 17 and an african american girl, and as far as I know heart disease dosenyt run in my family, but I heard about this 14year old boy who died at track practice due to an enlarged heart. My doctor was a MD not a cardioligist, does he know what he is talking about??? Should I beg my mom to take me to a cardiologist??? Please Help im so stressed, im thinking about quitting soccer so I will not die. I think I found an answer. Heart disease is not that common in young people. Most of the heart issues are structural. Meaning that either the chambers are enlarged, the aorta is enlarged, there is a hole in one of the chambers of the heart. . Basically the heart is not built in a normal fashion. One of the best ways of ruling structural abnormality is an ECHO. Which is a sonogram of the heart. It is a very easy and inexpensive test, painless, and takes very little time to perform. It diagnoses most of the cardiac anomalies and can give you an answer right away. It does seem, however, that your asthma does play a role here. You really need to make sure asthma is completely under control. Asking your doctor to refer you to get an ECHO will put your mind at ease, if nothing else.
